Boxing Day Spartan Swim raises 0ver 800€ for vital medical treatment for local climber

Ten plucky souls turned out on Boxing Day for the inaugural Sabinillas Spartan Charity Swim organised by the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George.

The brainchild of local residents Ian Ewing and Gary Jackson-Smith the swim follows the tradition of Boxing Day swims around the world and this first event raised over 800€ which completed the 9,000€ required to send Cristobal Pineda Rodríguez, an Andalucian rock climbing champion from Manilva, to Barcelona for a vital operation to treat Kienböck disease, a degenerative disease which destroys the wrist bones.

It is the St George Charity’s intention to make this an annual event, and one that will become a popular fixture on the local calendar.
